July 11, 2006
Dear Players and Parents,
The Midlakes Water Polo League board members are excited about the 2006 season scheduled to start play on July 24th and end with the Championship Finals on August 20th. Each year, Midlakes provides young athletes the unique opportunity to learn the fun and very challenging sport of Water Polo. The league offers 10&U, 12&U, 14&U, 17&U, 17/14 Girls, Women’s Open and Men’s Open age groups, and offers clubs help to support their efforts in running their programs. The requirement for play is a membership at a Midlakes Club that supports a Water Polo program with age groups in which you are interested.
Looking at the league historically, Midlakes organized Water Polo on the eastside starting in the mid to late 1960’s, and has supported teams to the present. As Water Polo evolves nationally and internationally, Midlakes has strived to adopt those changes in an manner that best serves the athletes and parents in our instructional league. We have made significant progress in the areas of organization, communication and professionalism over the years in order to make Midlakes a quality experience for everyone involved, especially the athletes. This can only continue/improve through the effort of great volunteers. We would ask that you encourage parents to get on board and do what they can to help in any way possible.
There are many opportunities for different levels of participation, including: Coaches, Referees and Administrators. We are in need of as much support as possible to strengthen the league. Please encourage everyone to get involved.
There are a number of places where athletes and parents can surf the web in order to find out more about the game, its rules, and styles of play. Here are a few website addresses to check out:
Many in the league are new to the sport of Water Polo. But everyone might find it helpful to familiarize yourselves with the rules of the game in order to have a more enjoyable experience. You will find a unique document at the bottom of the home page for midlakeswaterpolo.com that will help you understand the game and its terminology. Use all aspects of the Midlakes water polo website in order to have more fun this season.
Another reminder to all spectators and players attending Water Polo games, please remember when referees are on deck they have control of the entire pool area. Misconduct will not be tolerated from coaches, players or spectators and they do have authority remove people from the pool area. Please be courteous with your questions and comments.
We look forward to another great year in 2006 and appreciate all your support. If you would like to get involved but don’t know how, contact your coach or the League Commissioner Jeff Lowell at 206-793-5592 or email jefflowell@speakeasy.net.
Enjoy the Season,
Jeff Lowell
Midlakes Water Polo Commissioner
